Great Party

What a wonderful time we had at Kathy’s Jennings’ home Saturday night! We enjoyed meeting over 50 singles who came to the Christmas party. The residents at Wesley manor were so gracious to those of us who went caroling there prior to the party. We took some pictures during the evening so if you want those forwarded to you, let me know and I’ll send them.

Remember to try to help us serve lunch at the Lord’s Kitchen on 5th St. this Saturday, Dec. 22, anytime from 10:30-1:00. We want to share the love of Christ by serving others during this season.

We will plan a night to join together for prayer and devotion in January for our activity since we are encouraging everyone to join in the 21 Days of Prayer/Fasting from Jan. 6 – 27. We will have a huge volleyball game with food and fellowship in the Evangel School gym on Friday night Feb. 22. More details to come.

Thanks again to Kathy and her crew of workers who provided and excellent party for all of us. Join us for every upcoming event in 2008.

Let’s give of ourselves this Christmas.

Your friend,
Becky

caroling location for 5:30 Dec. 15

I contacted several facilities regarding us coming to minister to the residents. We received a warm welcome to come to Wesley Manor to sing carols to the residents while they are having dinner that evening in the dining room at 5:30pm.

Wesley Manor
5012 E. Manslick Road
969-3277
Meet at 5:30pm
Park near the main entrance and we will be in the dining room near the front desk.

We will carol from 5:30- 6:30 then we will head over (nearby) to Kathy’s home (7906 Bridlevista) for our party and caroling in her neighborhood.

Make plans to come. RSVP by next Wed.

Reminder: Make Time With God your first priority in every day, especially during such a busy
season.

Your friend,
Becky

Ps. Remember one of our Singles in your prayers today. Sharon Brewer’s mom (age 62) is dying. They are waiting for all of the family members to arrive before they turn off the life support. This is Pastor John Carmichael’s mother, also.

November Update!

Hey everyone!

I know you all are probably very busy with holiday plans, work, family, etc. at this time of the year. However, we wanted to plan something fun for everyone to look forward to for the singles group. I had heard about the wonderful Christmas parties at Kathy Jennings’ home in the past, so she has graciously opened her beautiful home to us again this year. We have chosen to have the party on Saturday December 15 at 7:00pm at 7906 Bridle Vista Road. (directions and details will come to you at a later date)

Please mark this date on your calendar today so there will be no schedule conflicts. We are asking everyone to bring either hors’dorves , hot covered dish(with food in it!), or dessert. Please feel free to bring a guest and rsvp by Dec. 12.

FYI: You may be interested in seeing the movie “Bella” showing this Friday or Saturday (Nov. 16 – 17) only at Stony Brook or Tinseltown theatres. I have heard some wonderful comments about this movie. The central theme is the value of human life and it has won many awards.

We enjoyed some wonderful food, fellowship, and laughs at our Huber Farms event earlier this month. Half of the people who joined us were new to our group and we enjoyed getting to know them.

Don’t miss out on the Christmas party. Plan ahead and join us. We will schedule our activities for the new year at our Dec. 15 event.

Please email me or call the church ext. 1129 if you need to reach me at anytime.

Praying the blessings of God to cover you this day,
Becky

Spiritual Food for Thought:

Reference: James 1:2-4 “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.”

*Trials! Tribulation! Troubles! Joy! Which word seems to not belong in this group? The definition of “Joy” in Strong’s Concordance is “calm delight”. This seems easier said than done, especially for those of us who have prodigals, or who have had a dream die, suffered the loss of a child or loved one, or faced financial disaster or sickness. However, the calm we have in difficult times comes from knowing that no matter what happens in our lives, God’s position never changes. God is God. He is Lord of heaven and earth, He is our Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, which means He is the God of the middle, too. When an earthly king walks into his throne room and takes his seat, everything in that room comes into order. When God is on the throne of our lives, He brings everything into order, too. Being in a seated position signifies rest and confidence. When He is seated on the throne, we can be at rest, trusting that God has everything under control. The Delight we experience during trials comes from knowing that God designs and allows circumstances in our lives to work a godly maturity in us. How we respond or react to these is OUR CHOICE. We can learn to embrace trials with delight, because we know whatever comes our way, successes or failures, works a character trait of God in us—endurance, patience, steadfastness. We must have these characteristics and attributes to finish the race (Heb. 12:1).

In this Singles group, let us always focus on encouraging each other to allow God to work a perfect work in our lives that we will be able to finish the race He has set before us with JOY.

We will probably have a Christmas party or an event on Christmas night for any of you interested in getting together….a movie and coffee, maybe.

In the new year we will plan a First Friday Trolley Hop, Spaghetti Factory/IMAX, bowling, Go Carts, and other activities. We voted to mainly have our events on Friday evenings, ending the work week on a fun note.

Please let me know if you have a better email for us to use.

Food for thought:
When someone hurts us we should write it down in sand, where winds of forgiveness can erase it away. But, when someone does something good for us, we must engrave it in stone where no wind can ever erase it. Learn to write your hurts in the sand and to carve your benefits in stone. They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but then an entire life to forget them….Proverbs 10:12 “Hatred stirs up strife, but LOVE covers all sins.”

May you be aware this day of God’s blessings in your life,
Becky

Apples and McAlister's - Singles Update 10-25

Thanks for coming out to McAlister's for our first Singles event last Friday evening. We had about 25 people there. It was good that everyone was reminded to bring a jacket. We are making plans now to meet at our Singles Booth for the Fall Festival next Sunday Oct. 28 following the Heartbreak Hotel Illustrated sermon at 5:00pm at the Billtown Road campus. Sharon and Earl are bringing crockpots for the caramel and we voted to charge $2.00 per apple (If they are big apples, of course). We only received a $20.00 gift card from Kroger, so we will need to get some more apple donations. Send me some ideas. This will be a good fund-raiser for us.

Sandy, Sharon, and Teresa are checking on details for our Friday Nov. 2 event. We will either go to Starlight and Huber or the Trollie Hop and Spaghetti Factory. We will plan a fun Friday night outing for the Holidays, too. In the new year we will take in the IMAX, Bowling, Go-Carts, and other events that we vote on. We will keep in touch by email and phone.
We need help on Oct. 28....come by and take a shift with the caramel apples. Then, check this site for the final details on our next Friday night out...probably Nov. 2 around 6:00. Bring a guest, if you'd like.

Hook up with a Source class soon.

Your friend,
Becky

Hey Everyone, Check out this site!

Welcome to the Evangel Singles Group (otherwise known as the Evangel Lonely Hearts Club... just kidding). We had a wonderful time last Friday night. We had a great turn out. It was great to see all of you. If you didn't make the first get together, not to worry, we'll have plenty more more opportunities to get involved. Singles are an important component to our church. We hope to have a wonderful group here that meets on a regular basis and that organizes outings for fun. Keep up with site for the latest on what's happening. Caio.
