Thursday May 27 devotional....Mourn and Move One

We certainly had a wonderful time together at our Spring Picnic Sunday.  Around 45 people came out to eat, play volleyball and corn hole toss, sing kareoke....even a little square dancing for fun!  I had to leave at 4:30, but others stayed around past 6:00.  Thank God for the beautiful weather.....thank you Tom of the great music....thank you Geneva for heading up the corn hole toss...thank you Roger for keeping us hopping at volleyball....thank you Cindy and Doris for contacting everyone by phone (twice!)...it was just good all the way around!  I met many new people....that was a treat!

We voted that our next big activity will be canoeing and kayaking on Blue River in Indiana on Saturday June 26.  It will cost around $30 each for a full day of fun, sun, exercise, and fellowship.  More details to follow.  Make your plans now to attend!

Mourn and Move On
read pages 122-125   One in a Million  by Priscilla Shirer
Deut. 34:8  "So the sons of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days;  then the days of weeping and mourning for Moses came to an end."
If the Israelites had allowed sadness to discourage them, they would have missed out on the exciting new chapter in God's plans for them as He raised a new leader, Joshua, to take the people into their new home. The author shares insight in this thought.  As we go to new dimensions in our relationships with the Lord, God often asks us to embrace a new phase of the journey that sometimes requires that we leave behind the familiar to embrace the new.  While such steps are often painful, each is necessary if our spiritual growth is to continue unhindered.
*     What has God asked you to relinquish as you  journey on with Him?
a person
a relationship
an ambition
a life goal
a habit
a lifestyle choice
a religious comfort zone
control of your time
Consider the danger of not letting go of the things God asks us to give up.
Remember that mourning is a healthy expression of sadness that assists us in moving on.  If you grew up in an environment that discouraged expression of emotion, you probably struggle with handling loss.
In their work "Grief, Loss and Transition," the counselors teach that "we have 3 options for deaing with loss:
We may ignore (deny) the loss
We may get lost in the loss cycle and replay the past over and over through what are called flashbacks.
We can resolve the loss and find new meaning in a relationship...or thing to which we were attached."
Which of the 3 options best describes your way of dealing with a loss?
In Biblical times, it was typical for the mourning time to be seven days.  However, the gravity of what they were losing required more emotional healing.  Ps. 30:5 says "weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning".  Grief comes in seasons.  Don't allow it to define your life.

Moving on----
The customs of mourning in ancient times encouraged a very visual and vivid expression of grief.  Discuss (page 124)
Eccl. 3:4..."there is a time to weep....a time to laugh....and a time to dance"
read Deut. 34:9...a new season....a new leader
If you are in an extended time of mourning, make a wise decison to stop the actions of mourning so that your heart can be encouraged  and begin to heal.
GOD IS UP TO SOMETHING NEW AND YOU WON'T WANT TO MISS IT!

Looking forward to seeing you soon,
Becky

SINGLES SPRING PICNIC RESCHEDULED FOR THIS COMING SUNDAY MAY 23....SAME LOCATION, SAME TIME, SAME ACTIVITIES ....EVERYONE WELCOMED!  (Pray for great weather!!!!!!)

***********
"AN INVITATION FOR ALL" read pages 118-121 One in a Million by Priscilla Shirer
Have you ever felt "left out"?
Read Deut. 1:1 - Moses' message to ALL.
Read John 6:35,37 - God's message to ALL.

Have you ever felt exempt from:
Seeing God's Activity ... read Matt. 5:31; John 5:17; 1 Peter3:18
Experiencing His presence...read John 14:16-17; 2 Corinth. 6:16
Hearing God's voice .....read John 8:47a; 10:27; 14:26
Experiencing God's Power or Walking by His Spirit....read Rom. 8:9-11; John 14:26
Exercising God's gifts....read 1 Corin. 12
Exhibiting God's fruit....read Gal. 5:16-18, 22-23
Receiving God's grace....read Heb. 4:16; 2 Corin. 9:8

Do a study of one of these biblical characters and consider in what ways your life might mirror theirs:
Rahab - Joshua 2
The Prodigal son - Luke 15:11-31

Read Ephesians 3:6

The Enemy's Ploy
Read John 10:10; 2 Corin. 4:3-4; Eph. 1:18
Think of an example of how Satan has blinded the mind of an unsaved person so they can't understand the grace of Christ.  Who was this person and how was it obvious that the Enemy was behind their blindness?
How have you personally experienced Satan's plan to make you feel distant from and unworthy of your inheritance as a believer?

Invitation Revoked?
Some say that when God barred Moses and others from entering the Promised Lane that he retracted His promise because they didn't behave as He liked.  God doesn't revoke invitations to a dynamic relationship with Himself.  We must consider Israel's story in its greater context.  According to the conditions of the covenant the Lord made with them, the Hebrews had to walk in continued obedience to receive benefit.
All people, from those who've never heard of God to those who have heard about Him all their lives, stand on the same ground before God  They get the same offer and the same promises in Christ Jesus.

Rest For All
Read Hebrews 4:1,3
These scriptures encourage believers with a promise of REST that cleearly parallels Israel's inheritance of Canaan.
Read Deut. 12:9-11; 31; 18-20
Now and for all eternity, believers can live--not without trouble but WITHOUT ANXIETY AND FEAR.We can rest in the experiential guidance of a loving Father.  You are invited to participate in active, ongoing relationship with God.  No matter what you have done the invitation has not been revoked.  TREASURE IT, ACCEPT IT, AND GET BUSY LIVING BY IT.

See ya soon,
Becky

tonights source study May 6

Hey everyone!   We will pick up our study from "One in a Million" we started 2 weeks ago.  Most people were involved in Derby parade or Christian concert last week.  Looking forward to our time together tonight at 7:30 in the foyer.  We will also discuss our May 16 Picnic plans tonight at source group.  Invitations will be handed out to all people this coming Sunday(Mother's Day) at both main campuses and also satelitte campuses.  thank you Earl and cindy for helping to coordinate this with the ushers. Our approach is this:  "If you have any single adults in your family or circle of friends, please have them come out to our fellowship time next Sunday May 16.....".  Help us spread the word!

Your friend,
Becky
