January Hello

I hope you are enjoying this COOL day in January. It is wonderful to have God’s love and care to warm us.

I apologize for not contacting you sooner. Our Evangel Email accounts have been down for 10 days, so I was unable to contact anyone during that time. We had a wonderful prayer meeting at Roger’s home on the 11th. Please pray over the following needs mentioned by those of you in attendance that evening:

Healing of diabetes
Finances
Christian friendships
Fresh anointing
Estate settlement
Household salvation
Emotional healing
God’s will in children’s lives
Missions trip
Better job
Souls
Restoration of family relationships
***Anna Smith’s brother, Robin, passed away on Jan. 23. Pray for Anna and her family.

After the last home prayer meeting, I sensed that God would be pleased if we continue these opportunities for prayer together. Our next prayer event will be on Saturday March 22 at 6:00 pm at Roger Hoagland’s home. We will make plans to all go to a movie together afterwards. (This is Easter weekend.)

Also, We have all been invited to a wonderful Singles conference in Elizabethtown Fri/Sat. March 7 – 8. A couple of us have been asked to be guest speakers and we would like as many of you as possible to go. It is close enough for us to drive down Friday evening and again on Saturday (or just attend whichever session is convenient for your schedule.) I will email or mail brochures and registration forms to you as soon as I receive them.

Start the New Year of right...

Hey everyone!

I’m sure by now you are settling back into a healthy routine after some wonderful holiday events. The Singles Christmas party at Kathy’s home was a highlight for each of us.

I want to encourage you to join us in our season of Prayer and Fasting from Jan. 6 – Jan. 26. Remember to pray that God will direct our Singles Ministry this year. We want to provide fellowship and encouragement to as many singles as possible during this new year. Our first 2 events of the year will help us accomplish a part of that goal. Two new SOURCE groups will be offered especially for Singles this semester at Evangel. They are as follows:
Beginning Wed. Jan. 9 - 6:30 pm weekly at Billtown Road prayer chapel (led by Jonah Rawal)

Beginning Thurs. Jan. 10 – 6:30 pm weekly at Minors Lane choir room (leader TBA)

We will be using a great curriculum from Turning Point. Study material will be available for you.

Great Party

What a wonderful time we had at Kathy’s Jennings’ home Saturday night! We enjoyed meeting over 50 singles who came to the Christmas party. The residents at Wesley manor were so gracious to those of us who went caroling there prior to the party. We took some pictures during the evening so if you want those forwarded to you, let me know and I’ll send them.

Remember to try to help us serve lunch at the Lord’s Kitchen on 5th St. this Saturday, Dec. 22, anytime from 10:30-1:00. We want to share the love of Christ by serving others during this season.

We will plan a night to join together for prayer and devotion in January for our activity since we are encouraging everyone to join in the 21 Days of Prayer/Fasting from Jan. 6 – 27. We will have a huge volleyball game with food and fellowship in the Evangel School gym on Friday night Feb. 22. More details to come.

Thanks again to Kathy and her crew of workers who provided and excellent party for all of us. Join us for every upcoming event in 2008.

Let’s give of ourselves this Christmas.

Your friend,
Becky

caroling location for 5:30 Dec. 15

I contacted several facilities regarding us coming to minister to the residents. We received a warm welcome to come to Wesley Manor to sing carols to the residents while they are having dinner that evening in the dining room at 5:30pm.

Wesley Manor
5012 E. Manslick Road
969-3277
Meet at 5:30pm
Park near the main entrance and we will be in the dining room near the front desk.

We will carol from 5:30- 6:30 then we will head over (nearby) to Kathy’s home (7906 Bridlevista) for our party and caroling in her neighborhood.

Make plans to come. RSVP by next Wed.

Reminder: Make Time With God your first priority in every day, especially during such a busy
season.

Your friend,
Becky

Ps. Remember one of our Singles in your prayers today. Sharon Brewer’s mom (age 62) is dying. They are waiting for all of the family members to arrive before they turn off the life support. This is Pastor John Carmichael’s mother, also.

November Update!

Hey everyone!

I know you all are probably very busy with holiday plans, work, family, etc. at this time of the year. However, we wanted to plan something fun for everyone to look forward to for the singles group. I had heard about the wonderful Christmas parties at Kathy Jennings’ home in the past, so she has graciously opened her beautiful home to us again this year. We have chosen to have the party on Saturday December 15 at 7:00pm at 7906 Bridle Vista Road. (directions and details will come to you at a later date)

Please mark this date on your calendar today so there will be no schedule conflicts. We are asking everyone to bring either hors’dorves , hot covered dish(with food in it!), or dessert. Please feel free to bring a guest and rsvp by Dec. 12.

FYI: You may be interested in seeing the movie “Bella” showing this Friday or Saturday (Nov. 16 – 17) only at Stony Brook or Tinseltown theatres. I have heard some wonderful comments about this movie. The central theme is the value of human life and it has won many awards.

We enjoyed some wonderful food, fellowship, and laughs at our Huber Farms event earlier this month. Half of the people who joined us were new to our group and we enjoyed getting to know them.

Don’t miss out on the Christmas party. Plan ahead and join us. We will schedule our activities for the new year at our Dec. 15 event.

Please email me or call the church ext. 1129 if you need to reach me at anytime.

Praying the blessings of God to cover you this day,
Becky

Spiritual Food for Thought:

Reference: James 1:2-4 “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.”

*Trials! Tribulation! Troubles! Joy! Which word seems to not belong in this group? The definition of “Joy” in Strong’s Concordance is “calm delight”. This seems easier said than done, especially for those of us who have prodigals, or who have had a dream die, suffered the loss of a child or loved one, or faced financial disaster or sickness. However, the calm we have in difficult times comes from knowing that no matter what happens in our lives, God’s position never changes. God is God. He is Lord of heaven and earth, He is our Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, which means He is the God of the middle, too. When an earthly king walks into his throne room and takes his seat, everything in that room comes into order. When God is on the throne of our lives, He brings everything into order, too. Being in a seated position signifies rest and confidence. When He is seated on the throne, we can be at rest, trusting that God has everything under control. The Delight we experience during trials comes from knowing that God designs and allows circumstances in our lives to work a godly maturity in us. How we respond or react to these is OUR CHOICE. We can learn to embrace trials with delight, because we know whatever comes our way, successes or failures, works a character trait of God in us—endurance, patience, steadfastness. We must have these characteristics and attributes to finish the race (Heb. 12:1).

In this Singles group, let us always focus on encouraging each other to allow God to work a perfect work in our lives that we will be able to finish the race He has set before us with JOY.
