Window Shopping - devotional for April 22 Source   7:30pm Minor Lane
read pages 114-117  One in  a million by Priscilla Shirer
read Deut. 34:1-2...Moses could see 50 or so miles of Promised Land
He saw it before him, but never got to taste it.  How do you think he felt?
Read Deut. 34:4
What to do when Canaan's in view:
Did you grow up going to church everytime the doors were open?  Did you see victory in others but never tasted it yourself?
Read Numbers 20:8-12...How did Moses offend the Lord?  Why do  you think the Lord withheld entry into Canaan rather than assigning a lesser punishment?
Disobedience is really a sign of ............
Disobedience defames ............
Deut 28:1-2
Canaan was promised to Israel, but only an obedient and believing generation would see that promise fulfilled.
When rebellion against God is in our lives, it shows our lack of trust in Him.  Lack of faith stops the believer's journey with God at the edge of the promised land.
John 10:10
Enhance our Vision
God gave Moses the supernatural ability to actually see the vast promised land from where he stood.  What 3 possible reasons could God have had to do this?
Should we pray:   Lord, enhance our vision!
Ephesians 1:17-20.....make this your prayer.

Let's determine to be sensitive to the Spirit's prompting in our lives.  Let's recognize His invitations to join in His work.  As a group, we are partnering with The City of Hope outreach to offer our skills and services to help the needy and lost in our city.  Don't let this opportunity pass you by.  It will change your life and the lives of others for eternity!

Partnering with you to impact the Kingdom of God,
Becky

"The Winds of Change"  from One in a Million by Priscilla Shirer

Reflect back:  Through what life circumstances has God confirmed that He wants to do something new with you?

Obstacles to Destiny:
read Numbers 10:35-36....What makes us think that Moses anticipated a difficult journey to Canaan?
Other nations and people groups had heard about the miracles being done for the Hebrews and they knew to prepare themselves for battle.  They would not enter the Promised Land with out a fight from the inhabitants there.
****Our enemy the Devil hates Christians who intend to enter new territory with God.  We must anticipate our Enemy's desire to hinder our progress.  We are going to have to fight for it. Don't allow complacency or a false sense of security to numb us to Satan's advances.  COMPLACENCY IS HIS MOST VALUED POSITION FOR THE CHRISTIAN.  FEAR AND DOUBT ARE BIG TOO!!!!
Read Eph. 6:10-11
What battle strategies does the Enemy use to keep you from walking forward with God?
??fear, feelings of inadequacy, sin , complacency, guilt, people-pleasing,....other____________?????
Read:
2 Tim. 1:7  (fear)
2 Cor. 3:5-6  (inadequacy)
I Pet. 5:8-9 I John 1:9   (sin)
Eph. 5:14-16; Rev. 3:15-20 (complacency)
Romans 8:1  (guilt)
Col 1:10; I Thess. 2:4  (people-pleasing)

Prepared for Battle:
Numbers 10:35   Powerful!!!!
In what did Moses place confidence?
Ex. 33:15-16
God's Presence is KEY!
We often experience God in one portion of our journey and then think we can move forward without Him.
****The fellowship and faith we garner in the wilderness at the mountain of God are designed to keep our eyes on the Lord and to help us trust in His plans.  We must daily seek fellowship with Him. ****
Consider:  What about your life makes it difficult to keep ongoing connection with God?
Sometimes, we tend to run ahead on the momentum of all God has been doing in our lives.  Before we know it, our quiet time begins to wane and we begin to be void of God's presence in our lives.  This is a subtle trick of the enemy in the lives of sincere Christians. *****
Make sure you stay focused on the ONE who calls you and not just on the journey itself!
If you are a task-oriented person, this may be your main battle.  Current (godly) tasks may take your attention away from your relationship with God?  Do you think this may be what happens to trip up some successful Christian leaders in our world today and in recent past?

Frustrated with God:
read Numbers 11:1.....How did Israel react to the knowledge that their journey might come with difficulty?   Does your reaction to adversity sometimes mirror that of the Israelites?  How do you think your actions make God feel?
How do you feel when you see a difficult battle in the lives of others who seem to be faithfully following God?

SUMMARIZING THOUGHT:
Shirer:  "Despite the difficulties you will inevitably face as you follow God's plan for you, keep God's presence exalted.  Don't become complacent and don't give in to fear.  Trust that God is with you.  I promise you'll discover--just as Moses did--that the Lord is enough."

Seeking God's Presence,
Becky

"Changing Places"
We have been studying 2 categories so far....Deliverance and Development.  Now we will begin studying Destiny.
Questions:
From what were the Israelites delivered?
From what has God delivered you?
How did the wilderness develop the Hebrews?
How has the wilderness developed you?
Deut. 1:6-7

How does the term destiny correspond to Canaan?
According to John 10;10, what is your destiny as a Christ follower?
Deut.1:2
Breaking Camp:    Three months after leaving Egypt, Israel arrived at Sinai, where they remained for about a year.  After that pause in their travels, they made one last major geographical move to position them for the destiny God had long ago purposed for them. They camped for 38 years in the wilderness of Paran.
How do you react to breaking camp and moving forward?
--  "I'd rather stay where I feel safe.  I don't like change.
--  "Here we go again.  Wonder what God's got in store for us this time?"
--  "Yes!  Finally, I'm moving closer to the promised land!"

Sometimes, we must choose to cooperate within a new set of parameters in new seasons of life and be delighted at the new things God has for us.  We must be ready to turn away from the way we have lived, set our journeys according to the new paths God maps for us, and then go as He leads.

Read the following passages and discuss how each illustrates the 3 principles of TURN, SET YOUR JOURNEY, and GO:
Heb. 12:1-2
I cor. 9:24-27

Now consider your own life.  From what is the Lord asking you to turn recently?
To what does He want you to chart a new course?
Calculate the changes you may need to make in order to embrace His new journey for you.
(examples:  education, new ministry, lifestyle changes, new relationship,  job change, spiritual disciplines...etc...)
God's gifts require lifestyle modification to handle, enjoy, and fully appreciate them.  We must make the decision to turn and chart out a plan of action in order to enjoy and appreciate "a new place".
Which aspect of your calculated journey do you most anticipate?   Dread?

GET READY....Turn from that rope ladder, grasp that trapeze bar, set your eyes on the platform ahead, and prepare to let go.  The Lord won't leave you dangling.  He will provide just what you need just when you need Him.  You must trust that He will take care of you as you follow His new direction for your life.  He loves YOU!

Changing for the better Together,
Becky
